This film is great for the first 25 mins or so as they set up James' character (Josh) as a loving family man, then Josh (James) dies in an accident, and the film kinda dies with him. It has to decide if it's a black comedy or a drama and veers wildly between the two for the rest of the running time, doing neither genre justice. I think Beginners Luck has heaps more heart and a lot more soul, and is ultimately more satisfying than this film. James, though, looks spectacular in Dead Cool - the bouncy hair!! - so hard to say! (Not that he didn't look spectacular in BL!) If you get this (and it doesn't cost the earth), just ffwd to all the James scenes is my advice and avoid all the annoying Rosanna Arquette scenes! I do a lot of ffwrding when I'm watching BSG... *g*
So this is the one where James plays a ghost? He looks awesome and the facial expressions are... very James! :D
ReplyDeleteIs this film better than Beginner's Luck, or inferior to it, would you say?
